Oculus Rift Live Event In Two Days
The Oculus Rift Live Event is just two days away, happening on June 11, 2015. And, if you have seen the recently leaked images of what is assumed to be the retail version of the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset that were leaked on Reddit today, it is going to be awesome! According to the images, the consumer Rift will be completely wireless, have self-contained headphones, a forward-facing sensor, an ergonomic four button touch-pad controller, and an inductive chagrinning stand … and, it is simply gorgeous! In addition, according to the prematurely provided sales literature, you will be able to pre-order the highly anticipated virtual reality headset immediately.
Oculus released it’s first virtual reality headset development kit, the DK1, in late 2012, following a highly successful Kickstarter campaign. The DK2 dropped in 2014 and was much more refined and powerful. The consumer version of the Oculus Rift is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2016 and will be based upon the unreleased Crescent Bay prototype (unofficially referred to as the DK3). However, besides a general timeframe for the public release and various prototype specifications that have trickled through the developer community, little has been revealed about the intended consumer configuration of the Oculus Rift … until now.
Oculus, when revamping its website in preparation for its Step Into The Rift event, inadvertently released several detailed images of what many believe to be the highly anticipated consumer version of the virtual reality headset. Oculus founder, Palmer Luckey, is now claiming that the pictures are purely concept art and has advised that we shouldn’t “… expect everything to carry through to the [Rift event] on the 11th.” However, if Lucky is right, and these are merely concept art, why would they have included a “Pre-Order Now” button on one of the pages? Either way, Thursday is sure to be an exciting reveal. Check back with us after the Oculus Rift Live Event for the latest information and a detailed analysis of the presentation.
